Travel by Road
Labrador Coastal Drive is accessible by road for about eight months of the year. It is accessible in the south via the Strait of Belle Isle ferry from St. Barbe, Newfoundland to Blanc Sablon, Quebec and by the Relais Nordik Ferry Service from Sept Isles, Quebec and in the north via a ferry service from Goose Bay to Cartwright, Labrador.

In the South from Newfoundland
Marine Atlantic operates a ferry service between North Sydney, Nova Scotia and Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland. After arrival in Port Aux Basques drive north on the Trans-Canada Highway to Deer Lake and take Route 430, the Viking Trail to St. Barbe. Labrador Marine Services operates a daily service with the MV Apollo operates a ferry between St. Barbe , NL and Blanc Sablon, PQ.
From Quebec
Relais Nordik operates a passenger cargo service along the Lower North Shore of Quebec from Sept Isles, Natashquan, Havre Saint-Pierre and Rimouski, on Route 138 to Blanc Sablon. The passenger-cargo ship, the N/M Nordik Express, has a large, windowed observatory, cabin space for up to 60 people, a dining room and a cafeteria. As the ship stops in each port to unload supplies you have opportunity to visit the villages and historic attractions. The length of the trip to Blanc Sablon depends on where you board. Although it is not a conventional "ferry", vehicles are be transported. The trip from Rimouski is approximately 3 days and 2 days from Havre-Saint-Pierre. Blanc Sablon is just 2 km from the Quebec/Labrador border where you meet with Route 510.
In the North
Western Labrador is accessible by following Route 389 from Baie Comeau, Quebec to Labrador City. This is a combination paved/gravel road that is open year round. It is an estimated 8 1/2 hour drive. You can also travel to western Labrador by a passenger and auto rail service that operates from Sept Isles, Quebec. From western Labrador, Route 500 of the Trans Labrador Highway is 526 km to Goose Bay where Labrador Marine Services operates the Sir Robert Bond to Cartwright. There is also a passenger/freight service the MV Northern Ranger that operates from Goose Bay and communities on the north coast of Labrador on a weekly basis.
