Notes from meeting January 8, 2008
Noon, Forteau
Doug, Lawrence and Carmen
Labrador Pioneer Footpath

The purpose of the meeting was to review pull-off concepts and other trail details as received from Tract. Lawrence had some concern with regard to the L'Anse Au Diable pull-off and the trail leading down the hill. There is a Firing Range somewhere in that area that we need to be aware off. The concept included for L'Anse Au Loup was for the current trail head location. Lawrence is more interested in having the pull-off located at a site across from Earle's Grocery. This site affords a better view of the Harbour. He explained that the land adjoining the Schooner Cove trail head may be developed in the future and would lead to problems for us. He thinks that even now the trail needs to be re-directed away from this property. We discussed do some groundwork to keep it as trail staging area for the Schooner Cove Trail.

There was some discussion about whether or not the LSHDC would be bound by the Public Tendering Act if we wanted to awarde some LPF work to a local contractor.

Tract is preparing the Registration document for the environmental assessment for the LPF development. Our funding application to ACOA is held up by that.

We also talked about the Final Trail Development Manuel and some things that we have talked about during this process that we would like to ensure are included in the final document.

Notes to Final Trail Development Manuel

• Can the maps include GPS markings taken by Neil for pull-offs, staging areas and trail location/way-points?
• Include a a draft of letter to be sent to communities for support of project
• In discussion Tract indicated that they could provide a draft agreement/contract with each of the communities for trail maintenance and that Tract could provide a sample maintenance manuel for us to finalize and use.
