The Natural Heritage Centre is a new use for buildings that were once part of the Point Amour lightstation which is now a Provincial Historic Site. The Centre is available for use by educational and interested organizations for field courses, research and workshops.

Residence
The lightkeeper's house has been renovated and furnished with new furniture and appliances. The kitchen is well equipped with dishes, pots and pans, everything needed to cook and serve meals.
 
The living room, kitchen, three bedrooms and a full bathroom are located on the main floor. Bedding is provided but guests are asked to bring their own toiletries and towels.

Bedroom 5 - 1 single bed

Bedroom 4 and 5 are located in the basement.

Laboratory
The building that was once the shed can be a workshop, a studio or a laboratory. It is an open space with a painted concrete floor. A counter and shelves runs the length of the building for lots of workspace and there is running water and electricity. There is also access to the loft which is suitable for an office space and storage. The picture is of a flintknapping workshop held in the lab. Participants are learning the ancient skill using the bottoms of beer bottles to make an arrowhead.
 
Multi-Purpose Building

This building has been renovated to be suitable for public use. It is 1000 square feet of open conference and gallery space. Tables and chairs are provided.

Labrador Straits Botantical Initiative
In 2004 the Centre was the base for the first systematic botanical and mushroom survey in Labrador. Some 2200 plant specimens were collected and samples are located on site at the Natural heritage Centre and in herbariums in St. John’s and Montreal.
 
VO1AU Contesting
In Januray 2006, Chris Allingham VE3FU and Dave Goodwin, VO1AU came to Point Amour and the Natural Heritage Centre to operate in the CQ Magazine World Wide 160m CW contests.
 
The guys operated through a major winter storm and even went without power for some time. Despite even other challenges of operating in Labrador... they placed first in the world for this contest!

2005 Mushroom Foray
A Mushroom Foray was also hosted at the Centre in September 2005 in partnership with the Humber Natural History Society.

Traditional Uses of Plants
Local plants are displayed in the kitchen of the Lighthouse and an interpretator identifies species and instructs visitors on their traditional uses. Samples of various herbal teas including, Labrador Tea is available for purchase.
Craft Exhibition - A collection of locally made crafts and art will be on display for the month of July

Lighthouse Days – activities for children and young adults to celebrate the history of the lighthouse

Re-enactment of the wreck of the HMS Raleigh – an outdoor theatre held on the Thursday of the Labrador Straits Bakeapple Folk Festival week.
