Celebrating 150 Years at Point Amour
The Point Amour Lighthouse has been a beacon for 150 years guiding trans-Atlantic shipping and local fishing boats through the treacherous Strait of Belle Isle. This summer exhibits, interpreters and visitors will relate the many fantastic stories of the lighthouse... stories of the people that have lived and worked there and of the dramas that the lighthouse has witnessed. Join us as we reminisce the years and celebrate. Schedule of Events
The Whales are Here!
The whales have arrived at Point Amour. Humpbacks have been seen in Forteau Bay feeding on capelin for the past week. They're close to shore and have been putting on a great show. At night you can hear them, even if it's too dark to see them.
And that means the capelin are rolling!
Right now you can see whales from the shore in most of the communities from L'Anse au Clair to Red Bay. Other great places to watch whales throughout the summer are in St. Lewis, Battle Harbour and from the Strait of Belle Isle ferry, the M. V. Apollo.
