Whales!
Whales arrive in early summer at Point Amour and all along Labrador Coastal Drive . Humpbacks are commonly seen in Forteau Bay throughout the summer. They feed close to shore and put on a great show in their feeding frenzy. At night you can hear them, even if it's too dark to see them.
In 2008, a pod of orcas were seen near the wharf in L'Anse Au Clair and in crossing the Strait of Belle Isle on the MV Apollo.

You can see whales from the shore in most of the communities from L'Anse au Clair to Red Bay. Other great places to watch whales throughout the summer are in St. Lewis, Battle Harbour and from the Strait of Belle Isle ferry, the M. V. Apollo.
