West Coast Newfoundland Hiking Adventure
This dramatic adventure will have you believing that you’re on top of the world, where there is no civilization in view, where the endless miles of scenery will relieve you of your breath and "…where nature only comes in one size…", according to the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador.

We’ll visit Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site unique for its geology and stunning views. We'll hike trails that reveal the colossal collisions of tectonic plates and view rocks usually found only deep beneath the earth's
surface. The unforgettable scenes along the trail to the glacier-carved fjord at Western Brook Pond will leave us exhilarated as we take in these 2000 foot walls of rock from the water. A spectacular landscape of mountains and fjords will be our reward when we hike along the challenging James Callaghan Trail to the summit of Gros Morne Mountain. We may even have the opportunity to view some of the 5000 Humpback Whales that visit the Province's coastline each year.

As we travel up the coastline of the Northern Peninsula, we'll visit the National Historic Site at Port au Choix with its intriguing prehistory of the Maritime Archaic and Dorset peoples who, thousands of years ago, used the same resources as today's residents.

We'll explore the 1000-year-old Viking Settlement at L'Anse-aux-Meadows, the first cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only authenticated Norse settlement in North America. Where their journey ended, yours will begin!

Add two additional days to August 7th adventure as we visit Red Bay, Labrador and the amazing 16th century Basque Whaling Centre. This adventure may challenge every idea you've ever had about the discovery of this continent.

We’ll relax at inns and cottages that are cozy and comfortable, and dine on the local specialties and delights from the sea.

We’ll hike 3 – 10 (sometimes challenging) miles per day, with some choices of easier hikes. Our adventure begins and ends in Deer Lake, Newfoundland.
